Kalmia Beets is a Nurse Practitioner at VCC that is dedicated to providing compassionate, holistic care to help her patients thrive. Growing up in rural Hawai’i with limited access to healthcare, Kalmia developed a passion for working within healthcare systems that support underserved communities. She found a perfect match in VCC’s mission to deliver compassionate healthcare across diverse populations.

Kalmia is committed to building trusting relationships with her patients, meeting them where they are to provide the guidance and resources they need to achieve lifelong health. She enjoys working with pediatric patients and has additional expertise in women’s health (particularly teens and young adults), diabetes management, neurology, and behavioral health. Her holistic approach to primary care ensures that all aspects of a patient’s well-being are addressed.

Kalmia is certified as a primary care pediatric nurse practitioner (CPNP-PC) by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB). She speaks Hawaiian and Hawaiian Pidgin fluently and is learning Spanish.

While new to San Diego, Kalmia is excited to immerse herself in the local community and continue her involvement with projects aimed at improving community health in Hawai’i. Her deep connection to the resilience and strength of Hawai’i’s culture influences her approach to care, and she sees many parallels between the communities in Hawai’i and San Diego.
